Why do concrete joints need to be sealed at all?
Because joints are the openings in the armor of your slab. Water sits in them and soaks sideways into the concrete, then freezes and pries the joint edges apart. Salt concentrates in them. Grit packs them so hard the slab cannot flex, and the edges spall instead. A sealed joint sheds all three, which is why sealing is standard care on every serious floor. Reseal an old joint before winter and you stop the freeze cycle before it starts.
